The First Letter First Rule
Always look at the first letter of each word before looking at any other letters.
Use this rule to make your first decision. If all the first letters are different, your job is easy! If they are the same, you need the next rule.
The Second Letter Tie-Breaker Rule
If the first letters of two or more words are the same, you must compare their second letters to decide the order.
This is the most important rule for this lesson. The second letter breaks the tie and tells you which word comes next in the sequence.
The A-to-Z Order Rule
Letters that appear earlier in the alphabet (like A, B, C) always come before letters that appear later (like X, Y, Z).
