An antonym must mean the opposite of the original word.
This is the most important rule. When you choose an antonym, ask yourself, 'Is this word the opposite?' For example, 'fast' is the opposite of 'slow,' but 'big' is just a different word, not the opposite.
The Same Part of Speech Rule
Antonyms almost always belong to the same part of speech.
