Key Rules & Conventions

The Subject Question Ask: 'What is the subject doing?' First, find the subject (the who or what). Then, ask what that subject is doing. The answer will be your action verb. The 'Can I...?' Test Ask yourself, 'Can I [the word]?' To check if a word is an action verb, put it in the blank. For example, 'Can I jump?' Yes! So 'jump' is an action verb. 'Can I happy?' No. So 'happy' is not an action verb.
