The '-ful' Rule
Root Word + -ful = 'full of' the Root Word
When you see '-ful' at the end of a word, it means the word is describing something as being 'full of' whatever the root word is. For example, 'hopeful' means 'full of hope'.
The '-less' Rule
Root Word + -less = 'without' the Root Word
When you see '-less' at the end of a word, it means the word is describing something as being 'without' whatever the root word is. For example, 'homeless' means 'without a home'.
