Key Rules & Conventions

The Day-Year Rule Month Day, Year When you write a full date with the month, the day's number, and the year, you must put a comma between the day and the year. The After-Year Rule Month Day, Year, [rest of the sentence] If a full date is in the middle of a sentence, you need a second comma right after the year to separate it from the rest of the sentence. The No-Day, No-Comma Rule Month Year If you only write the month and the year (without a specific day), you do not need to use a comma.
