Base Word 🏠A base word is a plain word that can stand all by itself.The word 'play' is a base word. You can play with a toy. 🧸
Prefix ➡️A prefix is a word part added to the BEGINNING of a base word.In 'replay', the prefix is 're-'. It means 'to do again'.
Suffix ⬅️A suffix is a word part added to the END of a base word.In 'playing', the suffix is '-ing'. It means 'happening now'.
Word Part 🧩A word part is a piece of a word, like a puzzle piece.In the word 'unhappy', 'un-' and 'happy' are both word parts.
Affix ✨Affix is a fancy name for ANY part added to a word.Prefixes and suffixes are both types of affixes.

A prefix always goes at the start. It can't be by itself. 'Pre-' means before!
The Suffix Rule
Base Word + Suffix
A suffix always goes at the end. It can't be by itself. It follows the base word.
The Base Word Rule
Base Word = A Real Word
The base word must be a real word you can use in a sentence. 'Happy' is a real word!
