Analyze and edit sentences from professional texts and their own writing for correct series punctuation. Articulate the stylistic and rhetorical impact of using a series in persuasive writing. Key Rules & Conventions

The Standard Series Rule Item 1, Item 2, and Item 3. In a series of three or more items, use a comma after each item except the last one. Place a comma before the coordinating conjunction (the Oxford comma) to ensure clarity, which is the standard for academic writing. The Semicolon Rule for Complex Series Item 1, with internal comma; Item 2, with internal comma; and Item 3, with internal comma. When the items in a series themselves contain commas (e.g., they are long phrases, appositives, or clauses), use semicolons instead of commas to separate the main items. This prevents confusion about where one item ends and the next begins.
