Key Rules & Conventions

The 'Now' Words Rule Look for special 'now' words: is, am, are. These little words tell you something is true right now. They are like a big sign that says 'PRESENT!' The Super 's' Rule Look for an 's' at the end of the action word. When we talk about one person or thing doing something now, the action word often gets an 's'. For example, 'A cat sits.' not 'A cat sit.' The 'Ask Now' Question Ask yourself: 'Is this happening right now?' After you read a sentence, ask this question. If the answer is 'yes', it tells about the present!
