Introduction & Learning Objectives
Learning Objectives
Identify a repeating action in a set of instructions.
Explain that a 'loop' means to do something over and over.
Create a simple 2-step loop with their bodies, like a dance.
Follow a simple algorithm that includes a loop.
Count the number of times an action repeats in a pattern.
Describe a real-world task that uses repetition.
Have you ever planted a row of seeds? 🌱 You do the same thing again and again!
Today, we will learn about repeating actions. This is called a loop! Computers love loops because they can do a job many times.
Real-World Applications
Clapping a song's rhythm 👏
Brushing your teeth up and down 🦷
A robot putting lids on jars 🤖
Stirring cookie dough around and around 🍪

Key Concepts & Vocabulary
TermDefinitionExample
RepeatTo do the exact same thing again. ➡️➡️➡️You repeat when you clap, clap, clap.
ActionA single thing that you do, like a step. 👟Taking one step forward is an action.
LoopA set of actions that you repeat. 🔄A loop could be: 'Stomp, then Clap'. You do it over and over.
SequenceThe order that you do things. 1️⃣, 2️⃣, 3️⃣First put on socks, then put on shoes.
AlgorithmA list of steps to finish a task. 📝An algorithm for breakfast: 1. Get bowl. 2. Pour cereal. 3. Add milk.
CountHow many times you will do the loop. 🔢Let's repeat the action 3 times!

Core Syntax & Patterns
The 'Repeat X Times' Pattern
Repeat [Action] [Number] Times
Use this when you know exactly how many times to do something. Like planting 5 seeds.
The 'Inside the Loop' Pattern
The actions inside the loop happen together, again and again.
If your loop is 'Jump, then Spin', you must always do both actions in that order.
